We have reached the halfway point in the hot chocolate series- so far we have touched on some basic hot chocolates to try out, nothing too much having to do with the holiday season- so today its time to jump into christmas flavors with a gingerbread hot chocolate! Actually, this is probably my favorite hot chocolate to date, although I used milk chocolate in this recipe- i think it would be even better with dark chocolate. I would stay away from white chocolate on this one, because it will be overly sweet and the ginger might come across too strong. It's a great alternative to making actual gingerbread cookies from scratch - less cleanup and less time!
Gingerbread Hot Chocolate
makes 1-2 cups
Milk: 3 oz
Chocolate: 1.5 oz
Honey OR Molasses: 0.5 oz [i used honey for a milder flavor - but if you like molasses USE IT!]
Ginger: 1/2 teaspoon
Cinnamon: 1/4 teaspoon
Cloves: 1/2 teaspoon
1. Boil your milk and spices in a small sauce pan.
2. Add the honey/molasses to the chocolate
3. Pour the spiced milk over the chocolate and stir until homogenous
4. Top with hot water and drink!
-you can strain the milk after boiling, but it is not necessary!
